So I'm taking my goal to lose weight and become fitter seriously. And no more negativity on this post because I am accomplishing things and getting better all the time. Summer here I come!

(The fact that Americans use yards instead of metres annoys the crap out of me. Speedo pace club converts all my lovely round metre numbers to ugly yards ew.)

Also I may have had a stress fracture in my leg according to my doctor so I can't run until the end of January. Actually, it's not too bad because I think I like swimming more.

Holy shit swimming is hard.

I've been inspired by the Olympics and my embarrassing fangirling over the likes of Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Chad Le Clos, Jessica Ennis, Serena Williams etc etc to get more in shape and I went swimming in the uni pool today with my friend. As irrational as it sounds, I'd been harbouring the idea that swimming was totally easy to do while watching the olympics swim races. LOL I did not anticipate how tired I would feel just 5 metres into a lap. Like, my tummy muscles still hurt and my heart rate still hasn't gone down like one hour since I came back home. No wonder swimmers eat so much.

My friend is a lot more fitter than I am and managed to do about 6 50m laps. Me? Just 2, and at a snail's pace. Still it was fun and I'm determined to get better so that if I'm ever stranded in the middle of the ocean after my plane crashed (or something like that), I'll be ready to swim. And going with a friend helped, because no way I could've dived into a pool around so many fit looking people with all the social anxiety I carry around.

My hair smells like chlorine and there probably was pee in the water. Oh well.

I had an amazing day today observing the transit of Venus along with a few hundred people who turned up at uni to look at it through the telescopes and sunscopes that the uni astro-enthusiasts had set out outside.

Here are some pictures I took of the projected images.. My favourite is probably this, which is just around about 3rd contact:

Transit of Venus 16

Awesome day. After 3 pm, when the transit was finally over, all the astrophysicists and PhD students were like LOL let's go to the pub to celebrate. That was my cue to finally go home.

Anyway, great day. And I did appreciate my astro lecturer pointing out amidst the circle jerk over Captain Cook ~discovering Australia while he was travelling to Tahiti to observe the transit of Venus in 1769 that it also led to the terrible destruction of the original population of people who lived here before. And that by the way they knew about the transit of Venus before those pesky Europeans did too (which I want to find more information about).

A very happy new year and new decade everyone!

My new year's resolution is to get a GPA of 7 at uni and earn enough money to rent a room so I don't have to spend my holidays with my parents. Also I need to join and be active in some LGBT and feminist organizations, although I think my uni doesn't have any feminist groups (SMH). I know the GPA thing is a long shot but I'm over setting deliberately low ambitions just because I'm terrified of failing. Fuck that this is a new year.

I have a terrible head cold though. Hope it goes away before I run out of tissue boxes.

Have a great 2011!

I am going to brag now and be obnoxious because hell yes I did it! Passed 50,000 on my first nano!

(this is actually superb because my novel was sci-fi lol)

I am sooo happy omg this is the only successful thing I've done this year and I actually love my story even though it's a huge mess with more holes in it than cheese. I don't think I'll ever share it with anyone lol, it's way too depressing and if I squint enough it reads like a lab report so whoops... but omg I am really happy with it. (I also think this proves my suspicion that anybody who's written a high school assignment for Biology can win nanawrimo lol ... I hated my Bio reports because they had to be over 25,000 words if you wanted an A :O)
But I am so proud of you, self <3

I am so hungry lol it's almost 10 am here and I wrote for two and a half hours now and two hours this morning. My father said he made sausages. He is a bad influence on my half hearted vegetarianism.

basic stuff that also happenedCollapse )

Also I promised myself I wouldn't go see Deathly Hallows until I got over 50,000 so thank God that's over. Now I can go back to being an annoying HP stan and go see the movie multiple times this week!

GOOD night!

EDIT at 7 am: Ok fuck you LJ you just changed the question without acknowledging the fuck up.
Original was: If you were a TSA agent at Hogwarts who would you pat down and why?
And now it's la la magic what spell would you cast if you could ... whaaat

My original response:

If you could cast one type of magic spell, which would you choose, and why?

I'd like to know what the hell a creepy question like this is doing in Writer's Block. It feels a bit like we're totally normalizing the shit things the TSA is doing by incorporating it into pop culture. and Arggh the majority of Hogwarts peeps are kids :{ being a TSA and 'patting them down' is not a role I like to imagine myself in at all DDD: (and yes I read some of the answers and a lot of them seem to be choosing not students prone to mischief but rather people they consider 'attractive' so that just shows how effed up this question is honestly)

Edit: before I go to bed (it's 1.37 am here) can I just say I am especially creeped out by the 'and why?' at the end of the question? Like hello so an apparent 'security pat down'(which is what the TSA is pretending it is and it so is NOT) is totally now an euphemism for other things? What the fuck LJ
sooo after some extensive googling (because LJ hates Java) I found a web page that created some html for me so I could have a nice countdown for NaNoWriMo. Hopefully this'll be a good motivator for me? I'm seaofthermos btw

Anyways :D Wish me luck!

I signed up for NaNoWriMo about two weeks ago after hearing about it for the first first time on ontd_feminism. I avoided thinking about it until right now because I'm a bit of a procrastinator and now it's two days away and holy shit I have no idea what to write about.

Good times haha
